Earth and Its Landforms
Remember
Earth is a planet. This is the place where human beings, animals and plants live. It is made up of land (solid part), water (liquid part) and air (gaseous part).
A globe is a model of the Earth. It shows how Earth looks. It shows that one-fourth (1/4) of the Earth’s surface is land and three-fourths (3/4) of the Earth’s surface is water. This shows that Earth is covered mostly with water. The thick layer of air on the surface of the Earth protects us from the sun’s heat and light.
Landforms
1. Mountain is a high landform. We find many tall trees and wild animals in a mountain.
2. Volcano is a high landform with an opening on top called crater. Some volcanoes erupt. When it erupts, smoke and lava come out of the crater.
3. Hill is another high landform. A hill is smaller than a mountain. Animals graze on hills.
4. Plateau is also a high landform but flat on top. There are people who live on a plateau.
5. Valley is a landform between two mountains. Many people, animals and plants also live in a valley.
6. Plain is a wide and flat land. Farmers plant their crops on plains. We find rice fields, vegetables and fruits in plains.
